Who We Are
The ACARE program is a joint initiative by GA²LEN (Global Allergy and Asthma European Network) and HAEi (Hereditary Angioedema International) with the aim of developing and accrediting an interactive network of centers of reference and excellence in angioedema management. Angioedema is a common and debilitating condition that can be a challenge for both patients and treating physicians, especially when recurrent. Since its inception in December of 2019, the ACARE network has grown to over 70 member centers in more than 34 countries. Today it is the biggest and most active consortium of angioedemologists and angioedema centers with the largest global reach to patients affected by angioedema and its comorbidities.
What We Do
The ACARE network facilitates scientific projects and studies. We also inform and educate medical professionals on angioedema through our websites and social media channels, our education programs for physicians (Power of Prophylaxis and Make a Difference webinar series and the INTERACT preceptorship program). Our co-initiator and partner HAEi is a global non-profit network of patient associations dedicated to improving the lives of people with HAE. They provide their member organizations with specially designed tools and technical assistance that promote disease education and support activities addressing the unique needs of HAE patients and their families.
Our Mission
Our mission is for the GA²LEN ACAREs to serve as referral centers for the diagnosis and management of angioedema, and thereby complement the current efforts and pathways of healthcare communities to provide adequate care for angioedema patients. GA²LEN ACAREs as a strong global network of angioedema specialists aims at
- providing excellence in angioedema management
- harmonizing and improving angioedema management globally.
- increasing the knowledge of angioedema through research and education
- promoting angioedema research
- promoting the awareness of angioedema through advocacy activities
- broadening access to modern angioedema treatment in countries where they are available
- making concerted and systematic efforts to bring modern medicines to countries where there are none
Our Vision
Our vision is to increase the quality of life of all patients affected by angioedema by excellent medical care and research that improves our understanding of angioedema and its treatment. We also want to grow awareness of the disease, its symptoms, comorbidities, burden, its diagnostic workup, and treatment options, thereby empowering both patients and physicians to take control of all aspects of angioedema.
